Cursive and script text

Script and bold script, the two cursive-looking Unicode alphabets. Type once and copy whichever suits.

These are different Unicode characters, not formatting. They paste anywhere, which is the appeal — but screen readers announce them as mathematical symbols or skip them entirely, and search engines do not match them against the ordinary word. Good for a display name, wrong for body text.

How it works

01

These are characters, not formatting

A “bold” letter here is a distinct Unicode character that happens to look bold. That is why it survives being pasted into a bio or a username where real formatting would be stripped — and it is also why a screen reader announces it as mathematical notation or skips it, and why search engines do not match it against the ordinary word. Fine for a display name; wrong for anything that has to be read aloud or found.

02

The script alphabet is the incomplete one

Script has more letters assigned outside its block than any other of these alphabets — B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R and three lowercase letters all live elsewhere. A generator that does the arithmetic and stops produces a word missing a third of its capitals, which is why this is the style most often broken elsewhere.

What it does

Two weights

Script and bold script, side by side.

Complete alphabet

Including the letters assigned outside the main block.

Runs in your browser

No account and no upload — what you type is never sent anywhere. Analytics records that the tool was opened, never what you put into it.

Practical advice

Getting a better result

  • Bold script is more legible at small sizes; plain script is finer but can be hard to read on a phone.
  • Digits have no script form, so numbers come through unstyled.

Questions

Things people ask

Why do some letters look different from the rest?

Because they come from a different part of Unicode. Several script letters were assigned separately before the main block existed, so they are drawn by a different part of the font and can look slightly inconsistent depending on which font you are using.
