How it works
Lossless, so text stays crisp
PNG stores the rendered pixels exactly. JPEG guesses at them, and its guesses are worst precisely where contrast is highest — which on a document page means every letter.
You choose the resolution
A PDF page has no pixel size of its own. The width you pick is what determines how much detail is drawn.

Practical advice
Getting a better result
- PNGs of document pages are big — often several megabytes each at print resolution. That is the cost of lossless.
- If the pages are photographs rather than text, JPG will be a fraction of the size and look the same.
- PNG has no transparency here: a page is drawn on white, exactly as it would print.
- For a slide deck exported as PDF, PNG at 1600px is usually the sweet spot for reuse.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is rendered in your browser, and the renderer is configured never to fetch remote resources.
PNG or JPG?
PNG for text, diagrams, screenshots and line art — anything with hard edges. JPG for pages that are mostly photographs, where the file will be several times smaller for no visible loss.
Why are the files so large?
PNG stores every pixel exactly rather than approximating. A full-page render at print resolution is millions of pixels, so several megabytes is normal.
