Write your meta tags and see them before you ship

Fill in the fields and watch the Google result and the shared-link card update as you type. Character counts tell you a title is too long; seeing it cut off mid-word is what actually makes you shorten it.

How it works

01

The preview shows the resolved values

Leave the social fields blank and they inherit your page title and description — which is what you almost always want. The preview shows what will actually be published, not what you typed.

02

Everything is escaped properly

A quote or an angle bracket in your title cannot break out of its attribute. The output is HTML you are going to paste into your own site, so producing markup you did not write would be a real problem rather than a cosmetic one.

03

Advice, not scolding

The warnings quote the limits search engines actually apply and stay quiet about fields you have simply not filled in yet. Tools that shout about every blank box train you to ignore them.

What it does

Live Google and social previews

A search result and a shared-link card, both updating as you type, with the same truncation the real ones apply.

Open Graph and Twitter included

og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type, og:site_name and the Twitter card tags — grouped and commented in the output.

Sensible fallbacks

Blank social fields inherit from the page fields, so you fill in a title once instead of three times and they cannot drift apart.

Copy or download

Take the block to your clipboard, or download it as an HTML file. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Practical advice

Getting a better result

  • Put the distinctive part of your title first. Google truncates the end, and a title that starts with your brand name wastes the space that matters.
  • The canonical, og:url and og:image must all be absolute URLs including https://. Relative paths are silently ignored by crawlers and social networks.
  • Share images work best at roughly 1200×630. Anything much narrower gets cropped awkwardly in the card.
  • The keywords meta tag has been ignored by Google for well over a decade. It is harmless, but it is not doing anything for you.

Questions

Things people ask

Is anything I type sent to a server?

No. The tags are built in your browser as you type. There is no upload endpoint, and nothing on the page that can read your content.

The one exception is a share image preview: if you paste an image URL, your browser loads that image from wherever it lives, exactly as it would on any web page.

Where do I put the generated code?

Inside the <head> of your page, before the closing </head> tag. If your site is built with a CMS or framework, it will usually have a dedicated place for head tags or SEO fields rather than raw HTML.

Why do the social fields look empty?

Because they inherit your page title and description unless you override them, which is normally what you want. The preview and the generated code both show the resolved values, so you can see exactly what will be published.

How long should my title and description be?

Google truncates on pixel width rather than character count, but roughly 60 characters for a title and 70–160 for a description tends to display in full.

These are guides, not rules. A description that is cut off is not a penalty — it just means the end of your sentence is not doing any work.

Do meta tags improve my ranking?

The title genuinely matters. The description does not directly affect ranking, but it is often what decides whether someone clicks your result rather than the one above it — which affects how well the ranking you have actually performs.
