Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so some data is discarded during encoding. The quality slider controls how much, and the default of 88 is chosen to be visually hard to tell apart from the source at normal viewing sizes.

Because PNG is lossless, the source file itself has not lost anything, so this is a single compression pass.

Are my PNG files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using your device’s own image codecs. There is no upload endpoint, and nothing on the page that can read your content.

What happens to transparency when converting PNG to JPG?

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background. White is used by default, and you can pick a different colour in advanced settings.
